French Press

Ingredients and Equipment:
Coarsely ground coffee: Use a ratio of about 1:15, coffee to water. For example, for 1 cup of coffee, use approximately 28 grams of coffee grounds. Adjust based on your taste preferences.
Fresh, filtered water: Water quality significantly affects the taste of your coffee.
French press: A standard 8-cup (34 ounces or 1 liter) French press is a common size.
Kitchen Scale: One that shows grams

Instructions:

1. Measure Coffee:
Use a ratio of about 1:15, coffee to water. For example, for 1 cup of coffee, use approximately 28 grams of coffee grounds. Adjust based on your taste preferences.

2. Preheat the French Press:
Pour some hot water into the French press to preheat it. Swirl the water around and then discard it.

3. Add Coffee Grounds:
Add approximately 28 grams of coarsely ground coffee to the French press.

4. Boil Water:
Bring water to a boil and let it sit for a moment to cool slightly. The optimal temperature for brewing coffee is around 200°F (93°C).

5. Add Water:
Pour approximately 450 grams of hot water over the coffee grounds. Ensure that all the grounds are saturated. Use a long spoon or paddle to stir the mixture gently.

6. Brew:
Place the lid on the French press with the plunger pulled all the way up. Let the coffee steep for about 4 minutes. Adjust the steeping time to your taste preferences—longer for stronger coffee.

7. Plunge:
After the brewing time, gently stir the coffee twice and then slowly press down the plunger. Apply steady and even pressure to avoid agitation, which can lead to bitterness.

8. Pour and Enjoy:
Pour the brewed coffee into your mug and enjoy it black or with your preferred additions.

Tips for a Better Brew:
Use Fresh Coffee Beans: Grind coffee just before brewing for the best flavor.
Water Quality: Use clean, filtered water to avoid any off-flavors in your coffee.
Experiment with Ratios: Adjust the coffee-to-water ratio to suit your taste preferences.
Brewing Time: Try different brewing times to find the perfect balance of strength and flavor.
Keep Your French Press Clean: Regularly clean your French press to remove coffee oils and residues that can affect the taste.
